Transfer Files Between Mac and Android

If you use a Mac with an Android phone, none of Apple's built-in sync features help you. Universal Clipboard, Handoff, AirDrop, and iMessage are all Apple-only — they don't talk to Android at all. Clipcroft is the simplest way to bridge that gap, working in any browser on both sides without installing anything.

Send a file from Mac to Android in three steps

  1. On your Mac, open clipcroft.com in any browser and click Create a new online clipboard. You'll get a clipboard name like "coolfox07".
  2. On your Android phone, open clipcroft.com, enter the same clipboard name, and tap Open. Both devices are now connected.
  3. On your Mac, drag one or more files onto the Clipcroft page (or click the icon to pick them). They start transferring to your Android phone right away. On your Android phone, tap Save on each received file — or use the sidebar's Export content option to save them all at once.

The flow is symmetric. On your Android phone, tap the icon to pick one or more files, photos, or videos. On your Mac, click Save on each received file — or use the sidebar's Export content option to save them all at once.

Browser support

Mac (macOS)

Any modern browser on macOS — Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and others — on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. No installer, no extension, no Apple ID required.

Android

Any modern browser on Android 8 or newer — Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet, Edge, and others. No app from Google Play, no Google account required.

Why this works without an app or an Apple account

Clipcroft uses WebRTC — the same browser-to-browser technology behind Google Meet and most browser-based video calls. Once both devices are on the same shared clipboard name, the browsers connect peer-to-peer. Files travel browser-to-browser from your Mac to your Android phone (or vice versa) — never stored on our servers, never uploaded to a cloud, and with no need for both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.

What that means in practice for Mac and Android:

Optionally, set a password when you create a clipboard. An encryption key is derived locally on your Mac and used to encrypt everything before it leaves your browser — Clipcroft never sees the password or the unencrypted files.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't Universal Clipboard or Handoff work between Mac and Android?

Universal Clipboard and Handoff are Apple proprietary features that only work between Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account. They never communicate with Android. Clipcroft fills that gap because it runs in the browser on both sides — there is no platform restriction.

Do I need to install anything on my Android phone?

No. Clipcroft runs in any modern browser on Android — Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet, Edge, and others. There is nothing to install from Google Play and no account to create.

Will photos lose quality?

No. Messaging apps and email tend to recompress photos. Clipcroft transfers the original file byte-for-byte, including 4K videos, RAW photos, HEIC images, and other large files.

Can I sync clipboard text between my Mac and Android, not just files?

Yes. Clipcroft syncs text, links, and files. Type or paste text on one device and it appears on the other almost instantly — handy for moving a URL, an address, or a verification code between your Mac and your phone.

Do both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network?

No. Any internet connection works on either side. Clipcroft handles network traversal automatically — your Android phone can be on cellular while your Mac is on home Wi-Fi.

Open Clipcroft on your Mac, create a clipboard, open it on your Android phone, and start sharing.
